Mariko Marrs was born in Sendai, Japan. During summer vacation following the second and third grades, her Mother gave her an assignment called “Different Clouds.” She would draw and color the variations of clouds she saw every day. If it were raining she would draw the gray sky. This is how she began to create. After she moved to the United States, she studied art at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. There she made images of wind, the sound of the ocean, and the space in-between. She wanted to paint things that cannot be put into words. Mariko is still exploring these themes. Currently residing in Seattle, she continues to produce and exhibit her work.
